Sidequest 9: It’s a Darty!

For the second home task, I turned my bathroom into a fun restaurant / bar venue. In lots of old school restaurants you find games like pool, foosball, corn hole, and darts. I decided that it would be best to set up a dart board in my bathroom given the limited objects I had in my house. Going to restaurants like this was very common in the ’80s and ’90s so the song choice “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey was a no brainer given its popularity around that time. The bag of M&M’s and cups represent the restaurant aspect of the venue. The red light comes from my heat lamp in my bathroom and represents the dark environment of restaurants like this. Typically, spring time is when day parties (aka darties) occur, but since we are stuck at home, I figured I’d make an actual darty (dart party) in my bathroom! I would say I hit the bullseye with this idea for home task #2!

A Little Crafter’s Party

My bathroom got turned into a kids’ birthday party all with party favors and arts and crafts! I chose the shark mask, but there are plenty of other cute items to win and plenty of drawing materials from scented markers to waterbased ones to share. Pardon me, but the unicorn ate all the candy we had to spare. Nothing says a little kids birthday than a rustic kitchen mat saying home is the heart of the home, a stuffed mascot, and colorful party bags of pencils and erasers.

Bar Mitzvah Flashbacks

Attached below is the video of my rendition of a night club/venue in my bathroom. I apologize for the shakiness at the end of the video; I was unable to contain my excitement with my 7th grade sister jumping in my living room bathroom. Jumping around with 7th graders to classic bass drop EDM songs reminded me of the times when I’d attend Bar Mitzvah parties all the time in 7th grade and engage in this exact activity. I know my take on this side quest wasn’t as creative as some of the examples you’ll see, but I think the energy in my video is unparalleled. Energy, at least in my opinion, is the most important factor in a fun Friday night out.

Film Concert in a Bathroom

Here is my video link:

So… since I live in someone else’s house for now, it is probably not polite for me to mess with their bathroom, but luckily I live with Ruohan who has the same task as me, so we decided to do it together! The titanic music inspiration is from a youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KolfEhV-KiA) which made us laugh so hard, and we were going to mimic the video, but I guess it’s actually hard to play badly on purpose, especially both of us are new to our instruments (Ruohan hasn’t played her flute for years). Then we thought because the music comes from an actual movie, it would be really cool to do a film concert. I would totally spend a night in a film concert: it’s probably one of my favorite forms of live performance. We learned the music (and instruments) in one night, and did the “performance”, which I thought was pretty amazing. Ruohan’s cousin’s acting dumb also add a good laughing point to the video. Also shout out to Ruohan’s mom who filmed the whole video!

I hope you enjoy it.

Does a night-out place need to be real?

I do not know a real place for a night out, but I do sometimes “play” in my dream. We do I do not know a real place for a night out, but I do sometimes “play” in my dream. We do not know what we are trying to do while dreaming, but we still enjoy dreaming sometimes. What makes a dream interesting is that any strange thing can be seen as if it were happening in reality. Therefore, a dream can be a suitable place for a night out, and my goal was to make a video about it. I know that this video is probably incomprehensible and strange, like a dream, but you must have seen a similar dream before. The most strangest thing happens in this video is that the bear’s head changes into a horse’s head. I appreciate my mother, who came back from Texas two days ago, for taking the video.

SQ9: yOuR tIMe StArTS noW!

Prior to watching the video, it’s important to qualify my decision to post this. Though I often blur the lines of what is acceptable in a classroom setting, I’m genuinely asking to please let me know if the content is inappropriate or upsets you as a viewer or teacher.

Despite being a stereotypical urban location in a large city, Oakland’s culture and nightlife is an acquired taste. Transitioning from “the Town’s” sideshows to a prominence of greek life, I’ve experienced a significant adjustment period. Often, as I wasted away in a fraternity or local (18+, of course) nightclub in Atlanta, I looked back to the night-out-experience I yearned for from high-school: My video is attached here.

Thanks to my mother for helping. Plus my cat, I suppose. #SQ9 #HT2

A Movie Night Out With Live Background Music

This home-tasking assignment was completed in a collaborative form by me and Kathy, since we live together, had similar thoughts for this assignment, and thought that we can produce a better result cooperatively than individually, while both putting in equal amount of effort. We both thought that movie night is a preferable and reasonable choice. We also decided to incorporate instruments at my house into this assignment, even though none of us are capable of playing them (why do I even have them?).

Greatly inspired by the Titanic emotional flute video , I decided to perform in a similar way. Sadly, even though I do not know how to play the instrument, I still could not mimic the effect that the original performer brings (I very much admire him), therefore, we just tried to add a twist to the performance and make it sound lively and relaxing. We practiced for one day, so the result is full of flaws (on my part), sorry for all the music majors out there.

Lastly, I would like to thank my family for taking out batteries from their remotes and clocks for the light strings, gathering all the candles and lamps in the house, and my cousin for his spectacular acting style as an audience with the virtual coke and popcorns. The link to the video is attached here, I hope you guys enjoy it.

Tennis Trick Shot

Here’s a link to my shot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sB4vVP5uH3P_egxBtaSyCUYUOZPYaenZ/view?usp=sharing

I decided I wanted to do some sort of trick shot with a tennis racket, because I have plenty of rackets since I used to play tennis on a regular basis. At first I tried to hit it off walls, the ceiling, or a fan, but after trying a few times I realized that a paper ball does not bounce much at all, so I decided to scrap the extra steps and just hit the paper straight in from a distance. Thankfully this distracted me a bit from the boredom of my quarantine.

Hometask #1: Slingshot “paper toss”

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Ox8efCLFBRDeIo7chefvEJYOW9HJvEHf

For this Hometask assignment, I chose to slingshot a piece of paper into a bin. I was having some difficulty coming up with “spectacular throw” ideas, until I saw this basic slingshot lying around my house — my brother and I used to play with it when we were younger, so it’s a little old and worn-down; but it worked! I’m not sure if this was particularly spectacular, but it definitely took me a bit to finally get it into the trash can. I made it in on my first practice attempt, but of course I wasn’t recording.

Yoga Throw

My throw is spectacular because I swiftly incorporated it into my yoga practice. During quarantine, I’ve taken up yoga, which has helped me calm down amidst the chaos happening in the world. Watching my peers’ throws, I noticed a pattern of students taking very drastic measures to throw the piece of paper into a trash bin. I wanted to find a way to throw that fit right into my daily routine. While many of the other throws are creative, my throw is spectacular because I demonstrate how small tasks can be incorporated into every aspect of daily life. Quarantining has forced us all to help out more around the house, which includes taking out the trash more often. While many people might complain about taking out the trash more often, my throw illustrates how people can easily incorporate these chores into their lifestyle without it disrupting their flow of life.
